Founded on compassion and driven by community, iThemba has been a sanctuary for Khayelitsha's elders since 2015.
The Vision of Nomsa Gxotiwe
iThemba Community Old Age Home was established in April 2015 by Nomsa Gxotiwe. Deeply rooted in Makhaza, Khayelitsha, the home was born out of a desperate community need. Many elders were left alone during the day, vulnerable and without proper care, while their families went to work.
Recognising this crisis, Nomsa envisioned a safe, dignified space where the "gogos" and "madalas" could receive nutritious meals, proper medical monitoring, and most importantly, love and companionship.
